Employment Law Training Service - “Law at Work”
I have been a legal trainer (to solicitors and HR managers) with the Law Society, CIPD, ACCA and Central Law Tutors but I particularly enjoy training in the workplace. Since Lockdown I’ve been doing this via Teams/Zoom, a very effective way to get the message across also ensuring those attending can speak confidently.
Many employers miss a chance by not training their workforce. Training puts managers on the front foot (instead of waiting for legal issues to take them by surprise) and many employees really appreciate it. Most workers don’t want to discriminate or to be in an environment where this happens.
Strategically, training has 3 main benefits: it stops endless historic comparisons, it can be a complete defence in discrimination claims (the ‘reasonable steps’ defence and it’s often one of the first questions in tribunal hearings!) and finally it puts your line managers on the same page as you.

Discrimination claims are a real threat to any organisation- there’s no upper limit on compensation awards and related facts and findings by a tribunal are publicly available on the Internet.
